Poetic Licence?
12 October 2022Last weekend there was a pretty amazing Full Moon. I was driving as it rose directly in front of me and when the moon is close to the horizon, it looks massive.
I didn’t get a chance to take any shots myself and, as mentioned in my previous post, full moon shots are always a bit disappointing anyway. So I wasn’t too worried.
One of the other disappointing things about moon photography is that you can’t really get it in true ‘context’ – ie with stars in the background. When you expose correctly for the moon, the stars are not bright enough to show and if you expose for the stars, the moon will be completely a blown white blob. But when it is in a shot with stars, it does give it some sense of context and realism.
So, with cloudy skies tonight, I thought I make a composite featuring The Moon to give it a proper background!
This is a composite of a Moon image from a few weeks ago and the southern sky featuring Jupiter taken at around the same time, combined and processed in Photoshop and further tweaked in Lightroom. What do you think?
