The Big Half

Sunday Sept 4th 2022, London

The first large event shoot since the summer ‘break’ (for some reason people don’t like running long distances in hot sunshine!) There were aeround 12,000 runners this year!

I was just before Tower Bridge, opposite The Tower of London with a number of colleagues set up on the bridge itself – this was roughly the halway point. As usual I was shooting with 70-200mm lens, but also had a second ‘auto’ camera set on a tripod getting wide shots with the Tower and Gherkin in the background (on a timer every 3 seconds)

Mo Farah was in the lead group, but decided to hide behind the other runners as he approached me – I just managed to get his sunglasses!

Paralympic legend and wheelchair winner Dave Weir was the first competitor through and caught me on the hop, so my image wasn’t too sharp. But I was ready for Eilish McColgan, who went on to win the women’s race.

Once the final runners had come through, we headed off to the finish at Cutty Sark and shot a mini-event, The Big Mile that took place after (a fun-run for families and children)
